[xk] Instrument fixation brackets; no part number?

Hi to all,

At the moment I’m busy with mounting the instrument panel of
my XK 140 FHC in place after a total rewire. All of the
instrument panel wiring has been done; Im gradually
checking all circuits step by step and then I have to put
the Thermometer/Oil pressure gauge back in place. Here I’ve
encountered a problem.

The instruments are fixed to a steel panel (which is screwed
to the wooden instrument panel) by means of 2 or 3 small L-
shaped brackets (and 2BA screws). There seem to be 3
different sizes for these brackets as the rim/flange of the
various instruments varies. However, I cant find any
reference in whatever Jaguar parts manual.
Does anyone have more info? Is this a Jaguar or a Smiths
item? Any ideas on the 3 different heights?
I also found with my car a wider flat bracket. Could these
be for the Ammeter and Thermometer/Oil pressure gauges where
the rim lays almost flat on the steel plate?

Regards,

Bob K.–

Hi Bob,
Are you referring to the “L” shaped brackets that are fixed to the
sides of the instrument?? The fuel, ammeter & oil/water meter all have
the same size bracket, (I can send you photos). The tach. & speedo. have
3 small ear shaped brackets, the other 3 have 2.

Correction on the response, the ammeter has different mounting ears than
the others. I took photos if that’s what you need.
