[xk] New XK Book "XK140 EXPLORED"

XK140 Explored by Bernard Viart and edited by Roger Payne

From when Paul Skilleter sent me the first draft of this book back believe
it or not on the 18th june 2008, I noted to Paul that the concept of the
exploded drawings of parts of the car were absolutely fantastic and being
very interested in authenticity and also restoring XK’s the whole concept
was going to be a valuable tool in the restoration of an XK140. The use of
drawings with notes allowed things to be shown that just can’t be achieved
by way of photos.
Anyway after 2 years the final book is probably the closest we will get to
being 100% correct and I can highly recommend it to any XK140 owner and as a
lot of components cross over from the XK120 and to the XK150 it will also be
very useful to the owners of these cars as well.
Books have now reached Australia the USA and England in quantity and can be
ordered from

after copies they can contact me tmcgrath@bigpond.com and I can supply full
details and copies

If I could make one comment for the work and effort that has gone into it is
way to cheap at the introductory offer price of 55 pounds and this will soon
be increased probably to only 60 pounds in real terms it should be on sale
at 100 pounds.

Happy reading

I am a new owner of a '55 XK140 and will have many questions. I hate to clutter up the forums or other groups with posts when solid reliable information could be available elsewhere. If a new printing of XK140 Explored were to be released I would very much want to buy a copy. I won’t pay the extremely high prices of collector-type used books, though. I am not that much of a perfectionist that I “need” the information that bad. I just want to know what is correct, if I am replacing any parts, and have an option of choice. I can’t figure out how to directly message anyone in this forum.

Hi Jim,

Welcome to the forum. There is a huge amount of knowledge here. In my opinion, XK140 Explored is the single most useful reference work other than a parts manual and a workshop manual. From time to time, you can find copies without paying exorbitant prices in the UK second hand book stores. Pooks Motor Bookshop (no connection) is a good place to start. Another vendor had one recently for GBP155 which isn’t so much of a premium over the cover price.
