[xk] Odd color combination

Hello all
I was watching a movie the other night, ‘‘My Man Godfrey’’.
There was a XK-140 OTS, Pastel Blue with red interior. My 140
was originally Pastel Blue with red interior, but none of my
books show that as a standard color combination. No matter how
distasteful, Jaguar would do just about any combination by
special order. I always thought it was an odd choice, but I
guess there were at least two people who though differently.
Just another fun filled fact.

just goes to show the old adage…‘there’s no accounting for taste’
and far be it for me to argue!–

Just shows - you need to go to the credible references!

XK140/150 IN DETAIL which analyses 100% of the factory build records advises
that of all XK140 OTS there were 374 painted in PASTEL BLUE, and of those
there were FOUR different STANDARD colour COMBINATION trims supplied:-

  1. RED trim - 126 cars
  2. BLUE trim - 117 cars
  3. DARK BLUE trim - 71 cars
  4. DUO-BLUE trim - 53 cars.

IN addition, there were another 5 with a non-standard COMBINATION trim
colours, but still one of the STANDARD trim colours on offer, so maybe BLACK
or GREY, but not a special-order colour, which was exceptionally rare - only
a handful and all listed individually by chassis number.

Roger Payne - XK140MC OTS; E-Type 4.2 S.1 OTS; DSV8.

And my Sept '56 build, '57 registered 140M is one of them.
Cotswold Blue was the argued color at a Concour once but
who knows, but yes, originally supplied pastel blue with a
red interior. I had a brilliant original sample under the
D-roll…

I painted the car, or shall I say, someone attempted a
paint job, not befitting the car, into Old English in '03.
The thing is getting completely redone again this fall
(nothing like having your headlight pods crack off the
car), and I think I’ll go back to OE, gross or not.

My V12 OTS is also light blue, but on blue hides, not my
first color choice there either, but that car is wearing
95% of its original paint, and I have to say, in natural
light, it’s THE most drop dead gorgeous color on an
Jaguar, simply perfect…

Cheers,

Jeff–
