[xk] Radiomobile bracket for XK120OTS

Hello,

I am still looking for photos & dimensions of xk120 OTS
Radomobile bracket, the one that bolts on under the dash.
It’s made of 2 pieces, left and right. I do have the centre
bracket…

Charles was kind enough to send photos of his bracket, but
unfortunately it’s for DHC and is different…

Please help…

Tadek,

I have the full RADIOMOBILE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS for the 1951-52 XK120
OTS, includes full details and diagrams including dimensions of everything -
Radio, Amplifier, Aerial, Speaker etc. Will be unchanged for 1953-54,
just date of Instructions was 1952 clearly for the steel bodied XK120 OTS
being different from alloy bodied.

I thought I had sent it to you?

If not I can send it to you direct as an 8 page .pdf

Hello Roger,

Thanks to these instructions I know how they look like - many
thanks for them.

However, I would need some photos with measurements to copy
them…

This is the Smiths Radiomobile setup that came with my 1954 XK120:

I cannot confirm that it is the original but the bracket is one
piece, spot welded together.

The cable, btw, is 88’’ long tip to tip.–

Took a break tonight from the E-type restoration and also took the
bracket off the XK120 radio. It’s a Radiomobile 4200 and type B
amplifier which I believe are correct for a December 1953
production 1954 MY XK120, although I will defer to Roger Payne on
that. My understanding has been that some cars left the factory
with radios and other radios were dealer installed. Not sure where
this one falls but the bracket is one piece and purpose-made for
mounting the radio. Three holes corresponding to the two mounting
screws on the side and one at the back of the radio, also a cutout
for the cable mount. If this is the correct mount and you’d like
the measurements I have the time.–

Nick (and others).

Nothing at all in Nick’s description and photos of his Radiomobile 4200 and
Type B amplifier, and brackets for both radio and amplifier to suggest
anything other than an original factory 1954 XK120 installation.

All items visually look identical to period photos and literature I have
including Radiomobile Installation Instructions for XK120.

But my understanding is if Radio was an after-market fitment in USA/Canada
then these units were rebranded/sold as EMITRON and not RADIOMOBILE, so more
probable Radio was already fitted to XK120 by Jaguar, before shipping car to
USA/Canada.

So I am certainly accepting Nick’s photos and descriptions and measurements
and those to come as DEFINITIVE advice on a factory original radio
installation in an XK120.

Two more pics. The tag on the amp and the sheet glued to the inside
of the radio case. FWIW.

Hello Nick,

Great photos, first itme I saw an original? antenna…
However, there is one more bracket to the one you show. It’t
made of left and right part - do you have it??

Roger P;
My Radiomobile Radio bracket has part of it that looks like
Nick’s bracket, but an additional piece was added to “make it fit?”
the 120 DHC…
I have posted some pics in the J-L Photo Album, which can be
seen at:

Any enlightenment would be appreciated.

No, I don’t have the two piece bracket Tadek, only the one you see
in the photo. A two piece bracket wouldn’t work with the radio I
have because it has only one mounting screw on each side. The screw
at the rear provides the third mounting point that stabilises the
radio.–
