Terry Mc;
My 120 DHC, 677556, June '53 Build, has a flat glass, short stalk
rear-view mirror.
I could not lay hands on the original-to-the-car mirror (it’s in an
un-inventoried box somewhere), but the replacement I bought back in the mid
'70’s is “side-by-side” identical, it’s measurements are: 1.5"x4.5" Flat
Mirror. Short Stalk, 1.5" from the base of the stalk to center of the pivot.
I noticed in your list (below), no flat glass mirrors are listed…
Would you like a photo? Additionally, I will continue the search for the
original mirror (just in case it isn’t exact like I think it is ;-} )

Charles,

677342 originally had a “rear view mirror” as you described yours did
(same size) and of course flat.

I had replaced it with something a bit “safer” (wider view/day nite)
early on, but I recently really had to scratch" to come up with a
suitable “replica” now that I’m driving “her” again.

Proper, beats safer, this time.

Regards,

Rick

Rick H;
I appreciate the confirmation that my new replacement mirror is the same
size and “style” as the original… I was fairly certain it was, just could
not verify
same.
With the DHC’s Hood up, the little rear view mirror was just the right
size to see out the rear window… A bigger mirror would have been overkill
;-} Of course, a bigger rear window would have been nice, but when you
drive a Jaguar, you aren’t concerned with who is behind you, just the guy
(gal?) in front you are trying to get around ;-}

Just catching up on a couple themes that ran whilst I have been in Asia for
past two months - home last night.

I too thought ALL XK140s had C.8151 adjustable rear-vision mirror, but have
reasonably strong evidence that a very very few (number unknown) of early
(1954 only) OTS were fitted with C.5500 non-adjustable rv-mirror as per late
XK120 OTS. No evidence of anything but C.8151 on DHC and FHC, but given
we have two or three very early XK140 DHC/FHC on list, would be interesting
to get confirmation.

I’m looking for a rear view mirror for an XK 150S FHC Part c12308. Can anyone help me locate one?

Terry,
Both 088 and 110 had short stem curved glass mirrors. I have replaced with flat glass but still have the curved glass that needs re-silvering.

I came across this recommendation on an MG website.

Well, that is extremely cool! I will have to read up on that, because the mirror in my Rover is getting to be pretty tatty.
