Many thanks Ken. Who was that handsome man lurking near your 150? The over head shot really shows up how good the roof etc repair was.

WOW Ken, I’ve never seen so many XKs, C & D type in one place. Nice shots.
Weather didn’t look too great though.

In reply to a message from Ottman0401@aol.com sent Sat 9 Aug 2008:

Yes Otto, I just lost count of the number of Cs & Ds. When I
wondered around the first paddock after the track had closed
there were 10 C-Types all in a row! There were others
scattered around on the various exhibitors stands as well
and that is before you start looking at all the various
replica/recreations which were there.

There were even more D types than Cs. But in defference to
Len’s feeling I didn’t hitch a ride

The only XKSS I saw was the one belonging to the company I
bought my 150 from. This has an interesting story to tell,
it was originally converted by Jaguar from the D-Type XKD555
becoming XKSS701. At sometime, I think, in the late sixties
it was crashed and repaired, but the front engine mounting
chassis and some other parts were replaced. These parts were
then later repaired and along with a whole load of other
D-Type parts were used to rebuild XKD555. So for many years
there were two cars with basically the same identity. Both
these two cars are now owned by the same gentleman and it is
planned that in time they will be recombined.
The CKL stand had another D type with a similar history, of
having been split into to cars which have again found a
common owner and CKL are in the process of recombining. I
believe the current market conditions have allowed this to
take place. Talking with Chris Keith Lucas himself earlier
in the year he was saying they are involved in 3 such projects.

As to the weather, I think it was better than expected.
Today is sadly due to be worse. Most of the day was dry but
overcast. There was one heavy shower in the morning. This
was whilst I was waiting in the pit lane for my second stint
on the the circuit. It had stopped raining by the time I got
out onto the track, but made driving condition, Interesting
(I believe that is the technical term). When I was at the
track day back in April I was basically foot to the floor
from just after the first apex of Madgwick, through the
second apex, brief lift for the change into top, wide open
through Fordwater and only finally coming off the pedal to
brake for the turn in to ‘‘No Name’’ which you need to slow
for or you stand no chance of making St Mary’s. After the
shower that side of the track was very slippery, too much
trottle in Madgwick and the back would step out, I was even
lifting for Fordwater as the back was starting to go there
too. I think the shower must have been fairly localised as
the braking zone into Woodcote (and boy do you need to brake
into Woodcote) had a lot more grip.

For the rest of the day we were spared more rain even if it
did look like the heavens were about to open a few times.
The end of the afternoon/early even cleared up and was
lovely. I was really having to concentrate on where I was
pointing the camera to avoid glare (see picture 4755). I was
only using a little Canon point and shoot jobby. My real
cameras are still film based and I hadn’t taken them.

Cheers

Hi Bernard,

Nice photos of your 120fhc, looking at the last photo, #11, I don’t
understand French but does that line mean " don’t even think about it"?

It’s not a permanent boot rack. I didn’t want to drill the boot lid.
There’s a double bracket with a double nut and bolt system on each side.
The suction cups are there not to spoil the paint (they actually did a
bit and I’ll have to polish the boot lid).
Here are the pics http://picasaweb.google.com/JagXK120/DTails
Hope this helps.

Re XK140 Rear Bumper-Bar WASHERS.

Can anyone tell me EXACTLY what the dimensions are of the “Special Washer”
as used on the four 3/8"UNF bolts that secure/join the inner and outer
Outrigger Brackets that support the Rear Bumpers of an XK140. I need
outside diameter, bolt hole diameter and thickness, and anything else that
may be “special”, although I suspect its just a very-oversize 3/8" plain
washer.

Jaguar Part No is BD.541/14 and eight are used, two per bolt.

Charles,
Maybe if I put a couple of smiley faces at the end my subtle attempt at
humor might have been noticed. As long as I have your attention, found some
curious items with my trans. For info. purposes, it’s a JLS prefix & CR suffix.
The link is: http://www.jag-lovers.org/v.htm?1218423516

There is another item not shown re. the shift lever which I’ll post later on
when I put it back together with the new seals & gaskets.

Bernard,
I double Charles comment. I thought that your lovely daughter was, in fact,
a model asked to stand by the car. It is not uncommon to have beautiful
models at car event, (especially concourse) who will pose alongside the
vintage and classic cars.

Roger,

My XK150 lists that same part number that you give for the 140. I can make
a guess which washer that might be, but how about I send you pictures of my
pieces and you tell me which one.

Once again, I can safely claim that everything in this area is original.

Ken, Bernard, where have you been on saturday at 11o’clock?! We have
waited for more Jaguar lovers to show up!
We were there: John Elmgreen, Terry McGrath, Peter Fielding, Phil
North, Urs Schmid, Urs Haehnle and me. ( Did I forget someone? )

It was fantastic and fabulous event! Never to be forgotten!

My XK120 DHC made 1409 miles during this trip, without any problems!
