[xk] To resolve a controvosy

I couldn’t agree more. I too have corresponded with Roger off and on for a
few years now on a variety of 140 topics and usually he has been able to
help me out if I need it. There has been the odd occasion when he hasn’t
been able to help but he has always at least given me a lead. Any
information he does give is thoroughly researched and if he doesn’t know he
will tell you. I would say that he has always gone out of his way and always
given freely of his time and research.
I know I am far from the only recipient of his help and know that he is a
very key part of the XK world. Thank you Roger.

I have dealt with Roger a fair bit a couple of years ago
as I was getting the inside information to him regarding
factory fitted H8 carburetors on my 140 SE [MC]. Roger is
a man we should all respect and thank him for his picky
nature for details, as he is recording history that will
be passed on for generations to come. Also, lets not
forget that Roger’s life career has been as an Automotive
Engineer and the very nature of that profession is
‘‘correct information’’ and thank god it is! The help I
have received from Roger is ten fold to what I could
provide him!
When I first read all this stuff, I sent a personal
message to Roger to let him know we are all on his side
and I am now pleased to see more of you agree with me.

Me, too. I have considered Roger a good friend going back
must be 20 years to the time before he had a computer and we
used to correspond by snail mail about Stevenson jacks. I
recall we were introduced by John Elmgreen.

This thread should remind us as Jaguarian and Lucasian
research archaeologists not to make Darwin’s mistake of
leaping to a desired but erroneous conclusion based on
insufficient and misleading evidence. One tin plated part is
not sufficient to form a firm conclusion about others of the
same era. As Sherlock Holmes said, it is a capital mistake
to theorize in advance of the facts.–

Ha, ha. I was thinking of how new discoveries in micro
biology are gradually toppling an old theory in spite of
entrenched opinion.–
