[xk] Trim Kits - where to buy?

Hello,

I am researching for a place where I can get the best trim kit for
an xk. I have located:

  • Bill Basset
  • BAS in US
  • BAS International in UK.

I would be grateful for all comments both off line and online :-)…

I remember your interior came from OSJI and it looked great.
I parted with my first XK too quickly, selling it to a smooth talking
British guy and soon longed for the beautiful lines of the XK and
melodious exhaust tones from the big 6.

Great to hear from you.

I sent off my XK120 seats and console to Muncie Imports and
Classics. They did a great job. Here is a link, which also
includes a price list. I also did see their shop and got a

Tadek,

Have you checked John Skinner: http://www.jaguar-trim.co.uk/
and Aldridge Trimming: http://www.aldridge.co.uk/ in UK?

I have bought several soft tops, tonneau covers and carpet
kits from Aldridge, they have all been satisfying.–

with various XK’s under restoration at present I am right into seats and trim.
Currently reconstructing a set of XK140 roadster seats which have been retrimmed using an OSJI kit and using a professional trimmer to undertake the fitting the general statement is that they are not that good with incorrect width pleats and the linen pulls inside probably sewn in the incorrect location. The rest of the car ie carpets and all lower trim panels I have done myself so I know they all fit and it has a 5 speed Supra conversion gearbox so gearbox carpet was always going to be a one off.
I have just finished the total manufacture from scratch of another set of 140 roadster seats for a friend and currently making from scratch a set of seats for my own XK120 DHC after all the years of owning it 2005 to present I hadn’t realized the seats in it where a set from an early 140 DHC FHC! So I have made a set of XK120 seats in the contoured bucket style normally seen on the XK120 roadster and will be retrimmed with a kit from SC Components manufacturer unknown. Hopefully they will be better than OSJI kit certainly the door panels that came with the kit were incorrect in that lock location was not in exact correct spot and then trimmed incorrectly in this area. The carpet provided for the panels on the sills are incorrect and after only abou 2 years sitting in the box the plastic on the boot matt hardura cracked and disintegrated!
Also making from scratch 2 sets of the chrome plated seats for the early XK120 roadsters chassis 660851 and 660999 and also making from scratch a set of the contoured bucket style XK120 seats for an XK120 FHC.
I have also had to make 1 seat for a late XK140 DHC with the tubular frame that was missing
At the same time I have 4 sets of the factory competition bucket seats on the go for my XK120 roadster and XK140 roadster and two spare pairs at this point.
I have a perfect set of original tan XK150 FHC seats so that is one job that doesn’t need doing but have a pair of Ruetter reclining seats for my XK150 roadster that will need an unknown amount of work. They had been trimmed in Africa with Elephant hide at one point and then poorly retrimmed in a cheap blue leather so goodness knows what will be underneath!
Having made and restored 30 or so sets of XK seats it is interesting the variations and will post some photos that show some of these shortly.

I have used BAS for two complete MK IX interiors and am very satisfied. I sent both sets of seats to BAS to rebuild and install new covers. My 61 MK 9 has Reutter adjustable seats and they are a nightmare to redo, but came out beautifully. They were featured on the BAS website for several years, light beige with contrasting dark green piping.

I purchased a Bassett interior on Ebay for my 52 XK-120 FHC in crimson red to go with the silver body color. It was made for Bill Welch around 15 years ago but was sold separately from the car that it was originally intended for. The quality is superb and I highly recommend Bassett. Bassett is renowned for his interiors and his seat foams are comfortable to sit on, unlike some that feel like cement.

I am familiar with BAS good reliable company and have brought lots of trim material of the roll from them.
I have visited Bassett’s and his stuff looks good.
