[xk] XK 120 Grill Vanes

I have recently purchased a very nice grill for the FHC. BUT, it is missing 3
vanes. Sort of looks like Terry Thomas. Where can I go to get replacement
vanes?
Thank you
Mad Ludwig

That was so bad, even for a Viking!
The gout was giving me a hard time last night. Tough to get old and know that
all the vices you can enjoy are no damn good for you! So be it. Have to stick
with the Wild Turkey 101 and stay away from beer.
Nice turnout too, all those E Type people. Strange bunch. Funny looking
engines and big noses.
Best regards
Mad Ludwig

Mad,

I have totally misunderstood your reference to your grille looking like Terry
Thomas. Is this some kind of Americanism which we Brits will never catch on
to? Please let me into the secret.

To my understanding Terry Thomas is-was a British actor with a VERY wide
space between his front teeth, hence, the way my grill looks missing a few
vanes. Wide space. Sorry to have confused you old boy. maybe he’s an
American actor with a BRITISH accent. Oh, that’s right, you have no accent
it’s us guys over here in the Colonies.

Still looking in vain for vanes.
We do have one hell of a confusing language

How about asking Jorge?

Mike Eck> Still looking in vain for vanes.

Thomas,

Sometimes, it’s hard to know where Ernie is coming from. He drives his
“wifes”, '40s Buick and ignors his proported XK120 FHC. He railes on E
Type owners (I’m
one) as having funny looking engines and big noses. I carefully checked
the mirror and dispute the latter insult. My 3.8 litre E engine is
identicle with my XK 120, other than bore and stroke.

Perhaps we’re dealing with a delightful Wild Turkey, John M,

John you say the nicest things?!
I was referring to the twin sixes, and to clarify, long noses.

I am also in the need for one or two of the longer brass vanes in good condition to repair my grill if anyone has any they would part with.
I’m located in Australia.

You need grille slats for your fully restored car!

Hi Terry.
It obviously wasn’t trial fitted before the car was painted as there is a 1/4" gap between the grill surround and hood in places. The vanes are all unevenly spaced and badly soldered then averagely chromed.
I have disassembled it, corrected the surround and am installing the vanes but have found one is steel if you have a spare or two?
Cheers, Graham.

The very first job on restoration and as part of bodywork repairs is to fit grille surround nicely to bonnett. This is all prior to painting.
I have had some full sets of slats made by the legendary cliff Byfield.
I will also have a few S/h individuals as well.
Will check through

If you could let me know please that would be appreciated.
Not the only issue I’m facing with the car and the restorer at the moment.

I’m still looking for a couple of long grill vanes if anyone has some spare.
Regards, Graham
