[xk] XK HORN WIRING

My existing XK alto horns are grounded by their mounting to the
fender brackets, and will short out the fuse when the power lines
are connected. It would seem to me that the horns should be
insulated from the positive frame ground so the horn switch will
activate them. If they had only one wire like all of the other
electrical things on this car and used the positive ground as one
of the leads they would work, but they have two wires. The horns
work fine off the car. Did Jag. have a special insulator for the
horn brackets?

Think British! One side of the horns are directly connected to the battery.
The horn switch connects the ground to the horns. Your horns must be other
than Jaguar and thus the problem. Either replace the horns (E-Type horns
are readily available) or insulate them from the chassis and run a separate
wire.

In reply to a message from CRVDRIVER sent Fri 5 Sep 2008:

HORN SHORT:
Thanks for the help; one of the horns had the internal parts
reversed and was shorting out the entire system. Should have taken
it apart before posting. THANKS AGAIN.
