XK120 Jaguar Control Head Manette installation?

Found a few things.
first I removed the nut and screw from the tightening clamp and found the nut had been stripped so I was never tightening the thing at all. Now with it completely removed I was able to get the stator tube to move so that there is now about 3/8" sticking out the bottom (none before). However, now with the clamp completely “unclamped” and moving the steering wheel (with a mark on it) the stator tube does not rotate with the steering wheel at all. Conclusion is: The stator tube is broken.

Yep, pull it out and see. It should have and inch or two of engagement in the slot and dimples even with that 3/8" sticking out.
