Hopefully, you checked the fit of your spare already (I think I see a spinner on one photo, indicating a wire wheel car). It is my understanding that early solid wheel cars had a thinner spare tire well. One friend with a car converted from solid wheels to wires, complains that his spare doesn’t fit. I believe they became the same (larger) when the FHC was added to the line. With luck, this wasn’t the reason that your spare floor was placed too low. Your work is nice.
The spare tray was actually set about 3/8" too high, but the wire wheel spare still fit. It now has another 3/8" additional freeboard. Thanks!
