XK150S Fuel Lid Attachment

After coming up short in the forum history, online parts diagrams, and service manuals - does anyone have pictures or guidance on how to properly attach the fuel lid assembly on a back-hinge, rubber dome fuel lid (XK150S)?

It was removed for paint repair and unfortunately the captured nuts in the body weren’t so captured after all… and are now floating in the trunk lining. Looking for guidance on the proper assembly to ensure it’s done right this time.

Liz,

Inside the boot, just below the fuel door, there is a Fuel Filler Box:

It is affixed to the body. A small metal bar is welded to the rear face of that box. The bar is drilled and tapped to mount the fuel door and hinge. The hinge is affixed to the box from the inside:

It appears your filler box has rusted away, something I assume is quite common as the box is a natural trap for water and spilled petrol. As you can see from the first picture, the rear of the filler box is the lowest point. If the drain hole gets clogged, quite a bit of water will pool there.

Thank you! The prior owner must have used the nuts as a workaround.
