[xk8] 2001 XKR DVD navigation faults?

Hi all,

after much testing and discussion with my local dealer I have found
that there is a very annoying fault to the DVD navigation system on
my 2001 XKR. The system cannot find a whole bunch of street
adresses in and around London.

  • I have the original 01 DVD for UK and it appears error free.
  • Dealer has tested the newest disc in another vehicle and also
could not locate the same streets I queried him on (try for example
to look up Old Avenue in Weybridge. You will find Old Avenue, but
in the wrong town, West Byfleet I beleive). THE FUNNY THING IS THAT
WHEN I PHYSICALLY DRIVE THE CAR ONTO OLD AVENUE IN WEYBRIDGE THE
MAP SHOWS THE CORRECT STREET ADDRESS OLD AVENUE… Therefore I have
concluded that it must be the search function that is faulty, not
    the street database.
  • The Jag system is supposedly provided by Alpine. I have not yet
    contacted them but will try.

Anyone have experience with this? Is it the UK disc or the search
software that sits on the system? A warranty fix?

Any input is much apreciated.

Thanks.–

I had the same problem with the sat nav on my 2000 xk8. The problem
was solved completely by a local electrical shop who charged a very
reasonable price. I did have to leave the unit with them for a
couple of days. Hope this helps.–

Thanks Terry, that is very good news. Do you mind sharing what shop
it was that carried out the work, and also do you know what exactly
they did?–

I believe the problem is because some disks can be more reflective
than others, due to manufacturing procedures. If the laser in the
unit is below spec then the unit cannot find all the information on
the disk. The shop that I used was Rosscotts of Hoddesdon.–
