[xk8] a few pics

Hi,
Wer’e just back from a trip in France, Switzerland and Italy. The Facebook
link (low res) shows about one day of shots only. Got bored, there are so
may exotic cars in Europe and I skipped beamers and MB. Lucie finally saw
her future ride, a 2012 VW Cabrio (if it gets here). Many many XK(8-R) and
always as gorgeous. I drove close to 4000 km, wish drivers here were as
disciplined. GPS was a MUST, no traffic jam at all. Toll roads are
expensive, more than fuel costs lloll, but still very affordable (one Corona
is 10 euros on the beach at St-Tropez). Speed traps are deadly and strict,
I think I got a flash at 94 km/hr in a 90 zone. What a wonderful country you
live in Thierry, lucky you are to enjoy your car there! No diesel smell,
engines are clean now. Low test is 92 , high test 98, no wonder they are so
fuel efficient. We rode a Renault Laguna (great great car) and a Citroen C4
(not so great). I tried an MB 190, very sweet… Funny cruise control works
the other way around (in the C4). Here it maintains speed, there it won’t
let you exceed. I took some time to get used to.

Nice trip!

I suppose that you also paid a visit to Monaco? The only place where
I’ve seen a Ferrari 612 parked next to a Ferrari 612 (and to a lot of
other exclusive cars  ), and then only place I’ve seen a real MC12.

I’ve a nice pic of my XK8 in front of the Casino

Javier

Hi Skater,

Nice to read that you enjoyed the country. I like it also, but then
I may be partial

For driving our type of cars it must say it is no more that funny,
because you get speed tickets at every corner, and you can easelly
lose your licence (each speed ticket costs you, plus the , some
of your 12 points (1 to 6), and with 0 points, no more licence…).

To enjoy driving it here you need a foreign licence… And I like
to go to the marvellous German Autobahns: more than half of them
are absolutely limit free, and once I drove (ok at 4 in the morning
on a sunday) at 155MPH for more than half an hour… Had to stop
only because the tank was empty… Extraodinary experience.

Anther place in Europe when one can see plenty of nice cars parked
on the road is Luxembourg.

I think you did not use all the features of the C4 cruise control,
don’t have a Citroen, but normally, next to the VMax limiter, there
is also a normal cruise control.

Brgds,

TC–
I couldn’t repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder.

I was wondering exactly were our director of the traffic department got
the idea for Spain. I see were. (but here, minimum take of points is 2).
Also jail over 200km/h there? Well, he gratified us with 3 additional
points if we did not lost any point in two years (hey! I have 15
points!). How much more nonsense will be have to support in the name of
security (or safety?)

On a previous trip I drove from Munich to Berlin at 200km/hr when feasable
and I fully agree with you. I was surprised at how tiny these roads are. I
ran into an enormous traffic jam 100km from Berlin and had to sleep in
Leipzig (kind of a ghost town now after great glory). That put a dent on the
average speed. Car accidents look Iike airplane crash. It’s horrible. I
noticed also that many cars smoked (blue smoke). I would be extremely
cautious at buying a used car there lloll. I plan to take delivery of my
next Porsche in Stuttgart, drive it to Le Havre and at last enjoy the
Autobahns to their fullest. That would be a great thrill. I had an AI plate
on this trip (swiss rental, scary for locals ah ah ah). Saw very few recent
Jaguar cars (just one XF and XK) but plenty like mine. A Maserati
GranTurismo I followed for many kilometers sounded like music to the ears on
the twisty roads to St-Tropez.
