Recently, I noticed oil settling within my rearview mirror. Is it
true that the XK8 mirrors can leak oil? Also, I have heard that
the more recent ‘‘gel’’ mirrors are a remedy for the prior leaky oil
mirrors. Does anybody have experience with this problem? I think
I’m going to replace my mirror with a gel mirror soon, but I’m not
sure how to do it. Any ideas?–

AFAIK, the replacement is not gel-based, but uses a metal plate.
Magna-donnely used to replace them for free, including postage, but
they have stopped and request now a contribution, but still much
less expensive than via jaguar. Do a search on this forum to find
the contct data.
To replace the mirror is quite easy, but get yourself the JTIS CD,
everything is explained.
