[xk8] New Ownwership questions

While new to the XK8 list I’ve own Jaguars for 10+ years and been on the XJ6
and XJ40 list equally as long. There is not nearly the traffic on this list
hopefully that is a good sign.

Just having the car a little over a week it is a grand experience thus far.

I have looked through the archives for most information but as didn’t find
what I was looking for.

What are the preferences cleaners/ protectorate for the convertible top?
The local dealership said they do not stock the Jaguar product. Only had 1
display item and the cost was near $200 (wow).

Since no CD ROM is available for the 05MY year I’m considering getting the
04MY one surely lots of the items are similar enough to provide guidance.

The car is still on warranty till 09 I’ll be scrutinizing over it to get
anything corrected plus I purchased and extend warranty for it out to 5
years/100K miles similar to the Select addition warranty.

I’m sort of a hands-on guy and keep my cars. Still have an 88 and 95 MY
cars. Needless to say the 88 gets me the dirtiest finger nails.

Hopefully tires and brakes will be my only concern for the near future.

Any advice or concerns are surely welcome.

Regards

Welcome.

I like www.alldatadiy.com for my on-line shop manual.

For the top I used the Jaguar top treatment and liked it well enough but
perhaps due to my inexperience, there are “tide marks” where one pass
with the treatment product overlapped another pass with the treatment
product. I’m sure you’ll get many informed responses on other products
as well.-----Original Message-----

I use the 303 fabric top cleaner and fabric guard and it has
worked very well, our vehicles are garaged, however. These
products are much less expensive than what the dealers offer.

I’ve seen this product. Also looking around there is a product call Ragg
Topp that seems to have a lot of publicity and endorsements through out the
internet. Any one has experience with that product.

I’ve used the All Data site for my 88MY and it had lots of good stuff.
Recently I used it for my son’s 03 Avalanche and wasn’t as good.

I’m assuming that the new models do not contain as muck data but will
certainly consider. The subscription rate is inexpensive and the upside is
the TSB which are usually worthwhile looking into.

Thanks

Top does not need waterproofing by all accounts. when I asked about the convertible top treatment a few people from UK mentioned a great product called Renovo. they have a website and distributor so you can order online. not tried it yet but its on my list.
