I was surprised to discover that my recently purchased 1997-XK8
convertible needed a new column after only 40,000 miles.
After a couple of weeks of ownership, I noticed that the steering
wheel was not firm and that about 3/4’’ of vertical movement was
possible (the electric rake/position adjustment had been fitted.)
That combined with an odd knocking noise behind the dash (see
recent thread) meant 2 new front dampers as well.
I am thankful that all this was covered under Jag-UK’s pre-owned
warranty and full marks to my local dealer for sorting it all out
quickly.
I wonder whether other owners have had a similar experience, but in
any case highlight it as a potential problem.–
