Xkr convertible 4.2 or 5.0?

Hi,
I am looking at buying an XKR convertible 2008 onwards and having spoken to my local Jaguar garage guru he said I should avoid the 5.0 engine. I have investigated the 5.0 engine and can’t see many issues.
Does anyone have any knowledge of 5.0 engine problems?

Thanks
Dave.

Not sure why they said that. Based off owning an XF with a supercharged 5.0 for a few years, plus the time I’ve spent reading posts from other owners on various forums, I’ve tend to have a pretty high opinion of the engines. Possibly he just doesn’t want to work on it and would prefer to work on something older?

I’ve always heard the same about avoiding the 5.0. Timing chain issues maybe? I can’t quite recall. My dad has a 2008 portfolio with the 4.2 and it certainly has more than enough power to get you in trouble quickly!

Knowing people who have had both the 4.2 and 5.0 they like the 5.0 as its more economical.

The 5.0 is fine provided it is properly maintained and serviced with regular oil changes. At least every 15K miles. I have the Naturally Aspirated.
