Back in 2003 I started to do some work on my 88 XJS, I know this
because I pulled the fuel injectors to send them out to be checked and
cleaned. I wrapped them in newspaper, never sent them out. Date on
newspaper is November 2003.
Then house, then kids, then life, and there she sat in the garage.
I am in the US by the way. I have “the book” and started reading it over 20 years ago.
I am restarting the project and hope to have it running by the end of the summer.
I still have all the parts,
Stuff I want to change
- Get rid of the air pump
So I have to plug up the holes - Install the GM alternator where the air pump used to be.
I have read the threads on the CS130 vs John Napoli large case, still deciding - Replace manual fan with electric one.
Things that happened
It did overheat once on my watch when I first got it, I was not so young, but naive
Advance weights were frozen
AAV was frozen
I have the engine stripped down to the cam covers.
Radiator, fans - out.
I have debated doing the head gaskets. According to the book not possible,
or very hard with engine in car. However I have seen a video where a guy did it.
If anyone has any true experience with this I would greatly appreciate it.
Big question, do I need to?? Or should I chance it. I cannot remember there
being a problem, and the oil is not milky.
I will post individual questions as I move forward after research.
Wish me luck
