Does anyone know how to fix or know a source for 16cu?

Johns also sells Jaguar parts. new and used…

Under the name Broken Kitty

As does David boger at evrerydayxj.

I have a lump but a v12 would be fun…

True.l i did it!!! took years. but, I was working and had limited time to work on the Jaguar. It was a huge adventure in to uncharted waters for me.,

Time to buy 3 MGBs…it’s the rest that is the challenge.

It seems to me that finding a working ECU isn’t your biggest hurdle, but rather the time it will take you to find it. You seem to be under some type of time constraint to move the car from one parking spot to another. You also indicated that your inability to push the car around by yourself.
I don’t see why a long chain or ratchet strap attached to another car, tractor, pickup truck can’t pull the car out of its current spot? Is there some aversion to giving a few bucks to some local kids, or enlisting the help of a neighbor to give you a hand.
Suggesting an engine transplant to overcome such a small obstacle is a bit looney if you ask me. It’d be cheaper to pay a tow truck driver to move the car around if it came down to it.

I just use a fence post which has an end cut off at 45’. Use it to lever the wheels around as you wish.

kind regards

My XJwuzza 6 has a tiny dent on the boot lid. I used my F150 to push it into the shop when it was undergoing it’s transplant…

Decade later the XJ coned out just around the corner from home. In the middle of the road. I walked home, got my Jeep and pushed it out of the traffic lane. Nobody around or I would have tied it on to the Jeep and towed it home!! Road service came. shortest haul for them ever… .

I’m a bit late to this thread but reading that you’re thinking of doing away with the V12 engine in your XJ-S because of an ECU fault nearly caused me to bring up my supper

If you have no luck with finding the correct part in the US then you may be better off speaking to a UK Jag specialist.

I can recommend these guys:

They have an extensive stock of ‘spares’ cars and deal with the US a lot.

I’ve also had good service from this company in the past:

Throwing away all that refinement and heritage for the sake of a few capacitors would be a terrible shame.

I just used an ohmmeter to check out the bad 6CU ECM that I have; all 4 injector “on” for A bank pins measure less than 1 ohm to ground- this indicates that the switching transistors have failed. This is with the ECM out of the car, no power applied, so cannot be anything else (including electrolytic capacitors). I may try to remove the board and replace them. The ones for B bank “ on” and both A/B bank “hold” measure infinite to ground, as does the fuel pump control. I will have to investigate the fuel pump control further, as the pump ran continuously even after stalling. A winter project…

I found this one, says it’s rebuilt and carries a warranty. The price seems high but if it works I’m ok with it. How does the group feel about this one?

Or this one? Says it came out of an xjs that had a carb conversion. That’s bit worries me a little.

$500 for a maybe working one that may or may not last a long time. Get it in a week.
$300 for a rebuilt one from AJ6 that will probably last a lonnng time. Get it in a few months.

If you can somehow store the car somewhere for a while, I would go for the second.

I just contacted the seller to ask about the details of the rebuild. I think Aj6 is more than $300. The website says 400 Pounds plus shipping.

Isn’t the 400 pounds for the SuperEnhanced ECU? I think just fixing the ECU is much cheaper.

Might check today’s lump forum. Nick’s post of one done right?

So the “rebuilt” ecu isn’t actually rebuilt at all. Why am I still surprised at the amount of greedy stupidity on the internet?!

You could try changing the electrolytic capacitors on your ECU, the usual source of failure

The way I read the ebay ad it was a rebuilt unit that had been in use replacing the original computer and removed and being sold as used.

What’s the definition of “rebuilt” in this context?

I guess it means “greedy seller” trying to capitalize on ignorance. I asked him who rebuilt it, when it was rebuilt, and if he had receipts for the rebuild. He didn’t know any of the information. Just that it came out of a parts car. 🤦🏻

… Or give it to a guy who can fix old TV/CB radio. There is plenty to look for, but nothing inside that cannot be checked with good multimeter/power source and replaced (‘integration’ and miniaturisation came later).

These days that seems to be easier said than done. I had one hell of time when trying to find someone to check out my CCM Climate Control Module. Does anyone know of any reliable sources?
