[E-Type] Does anyone have a part # for K & N filters

John,
Vizard is alive and well and still doing his thing. He is writing and
testing for different car magazines here in the states. Very nice guy,
willing to share what he’s learned. We’ve conversed by e-mail about such
things as using anti-reversion cones in E-types, head work and the like.
But you’re right, he’d rather build giant killers than run with the pack.
The nice thing about DV is he does all he own wrenching, machining, testing,
and writing. He’s published twenty-nine books, has over forty patents, and
has done over fifty thousand (50,000) dyno pulls.

And there was I, thinking that I was the only person on the list who
knew of David Vizard.

I always thought it a pity that he was never attracted to the XK engine,
I’m sure he could have found power and reliability at minimum cost, as
he did for the other engines that caught his attention.

John.

John,

Indeed; OTOH, all the work he did on improving performance on the SU carbs
is quite universal and could be put to good use on the E.

Cheers!

Oh, Lord, what hath I wrought…!
As for Messr. Vizard, he’s one smart cookie! Actually hadn’t
thought of him in a good long while, but I’ve a VERY dog–eared
copy of his ‘‘Tuning the A Series’’ book, plus stacks of his other
writings. Very informative man!
And, no sorrys neeed! As I’ve said before, I used K&Ns on my race
cars, and…as stated ‘ad nauseum,’ it t’weren’t the K&Ns that made
the extra 10% --they were possibly responsible for about 0.1% of
that increase-- but the other $$$$$$ worth of mods to the engine(s)!
I hope no one was/is offended by my inveigling about these
filters…I ONLY ever get exercised by the already-stated
reasons…and, I stand ready to help, again!.. Next?
Anyone wanna start a thread about Frantz toilet-paper oil
filters?..;)))–
The original message included these comments:

Sorry, but I did run a K&N filter set with integral velocity stacks
(purchased through APT racing - which was Visards company) on that car but
as I say, heavily modified and long term life didn’t really matter (as an
autocross car, running perhaps 15 events a year, engine time was perhaps 3-4
hours a year max).
