[E-Type] Don't forget file for re-assemble Please add any

Like…don’t forget to put the left rear bumper on before
installing the gas tank…
And don’t forget to use rubber spacers on bumper brackets…
And don’t forget to install correct O ring on heater valve…
And emergency brace cable…put grommet on steel loop that
cable runs thru and warning light is adjusted correct and
tight…
And don’t forget white wires to tac are switched…
And don’t forget the IRS rear brake calipers pipes coming up
from the hose… to change the pipes to the outside ports
leaving the inside ports for bleeders… eliminates the need
for remote bleeders…
And don’t forget when ordering front caliper rebuild kits to
also order the 4 little edge seals between caliper halves…
And don’t forget when removing the reaction/tie plate to
have a steel 3/8 diameter 20 inch steel rod to make the pins
as described on page 107 (b.67) in Bentley manual…

Please add any…I can not think of anymore…–

Don’t forget

that the very first things to install in the skuttle are the
washer jets, then the water/air pipes, only then the wiper
rack.

to install those two little retainers on the clutch throw
out bearing. You’ll realise you forgot only after driving
the car for the first time. Then bonnet off, engine out all
over again …

to put a pin in the hole in the gearbox mount shaft before
removing the engine, unless you intend to change out the
coil spring or rubber mounts

to take lots and lots of pictures–

Mitch,
On the Series 1, don’t forget to install both front bumpers
before you install the sugar scoops for the headlights.–

Mitch,
I just remembered another one for the Series 1 coupe,
install the rear hatch interior trim panels before the
window glass is installed. The lose edges of the vinyl at
the window are captured by the rubber seal. If you forget,
the glass and seal has to come back out to get it installed
right.–

And another one - install the fuel pipe or flex line at the
rear bulkhead that runs above the IRS cage before mounting
the IRS. It can’t be done easily if the IRS in already
there.–

Don’t forget…as per Pete Crespin et all…on duel carb
stromberg intake…there are 2 sets of throttles (4
total)…outer in each carb and 2 inner in the
intake…these must work in unison or remove the inner
throttle and linkage and seal up the intake
manifold…leaving each carb with one throttle (butterfly)…–

Don’t forget…on lower control arm the long narrow bolt that
locks the torsion bar into place…usually breaks/stripped

Another one. When reassembling the subframe assembly you must
pre-fit the two upper/outer bolts and radiator support
brackets to the bonnet subframe (aka trapeze) before offering
it up to the picture frame and engine frames. If you otherwise
bolt the trapeze in place the two upper bolts will not clear
the tubes in the trapeze and you will need to disassemble and
start over again.–

IRS mount(C17198) and body frame rail (about $2.25/1)…–

Ok, I know this thread is a year old but as I have been
referring to it and since I found (the hard way) a new
‘‘Don’t forget’’…

Don’t forget to install (C18510) ‘‘Bracket, on L.H. Facia
Inner Mounting Bracket, for Cable Abutment Clamp’’ BEFORE
installing all of dash wiring, ducting, and instruments!

This is the bracket that supports the clamp for the heater
control cables.

Incidentally, I was wondering what that funny looking
bracket floating around my work bench was when, just as I
had finished installing everything on the left side of the
dash and as I was sipping my morning coffee while perusing
some pictures that Nick S. sent to me, one of his pictures
popped up that had that assembly front and center.

This is a great forum!–

Don’t forget to fit the bumpers first. Which usually entails grinding on the edge to fit the contour of the body so that the black rubber rear bumper seal bd35977 will fit properly. Then have the bumpers chromed. If you take chromed bumpers and grind on the edge the grinding could peal the chrome at worst and at best you will leave a “raw” bumper edge with no chrome for rust protection.

Don’t forget To install the heat shield before the exhaust manifolds

Last night I was watching Chasing Classic Cars and they were assembling a Bugatti. All the chrome type pieces they were test fitting were still just done in the copper layer before being chromed. They were getting it ready for Pebble Beach.

This is a great thread.

Over the years I think I have made every mistake possible listed! Without exception.

Only once though.

Visiting my old friend…don’t forget file started 7 years ago

Anyway C27332 is the number (referenced above) of the bolt and nut that goes thru the lower control arm (follow the lower ball joint inward…where this intersects with the spline that receives the torsion bar is 1.879 inches long (measuring under the head…as all bolts are measured) X .1825
diameter (thickness) aka 1/8 grade 8 UNF (unified thread FINE)
Mitch

Don’t forget to put the vacuum lines and three way connector into the underside of master cyl. before you put the bottles and shields in because it is hell to try and turn the screws on the original style band clamps at the three way. then maybe just leave the booster end and the fire wall end laying close to position.
