Replacement of front side marker light on a series III E Type

Does anyone know how to replace the front side marker light holder on a 1973 Series III XKE? It is held in place with two nuts on the inside of the fender with no apparent access.

Remove the front indicator and you should be able to put your hand up through the resulting hole, up towards where the side repeater is.

Thanks. I have tried that but all I can do when I put my arm in the indicator hole is feel around blind so it’s a hit or miss situation right now, all miss so far. I thought the headlight nacelle would have to be removed to gain access.???

That’s solidly held by pop rivets under the chrome trim. I’t be easier to remove the headlight diaphragm panel from the wheel well. This is only held by nuts and bolts (7/16" spanners) plus large pozi-pan screws.

Greatly appreciate the info. Have you ever had to replace the side marker lights in this manner? I’m still amazed that somebody would design something like this as to make it almost impossible to replace a fixture like this without having to take half the car apart?
I read about the rivets and was dreading that option. What do you mean by the “diaphragm”?

Thanks again…Dan

I make a covered headlight kit for the s2 and s3 cars and the headlight diaphragm or backplate is the large (first unpainted then primrose yellow) bonnet panel behind the headlight but in front of the wheel.

Nice professional setting ! The problem he may have is that the screws and panels may be rusted if they are original and a pain to remove without cutting and then replacing . That was my case in spite of a very sound car .

Anyways , removing the scoops would even be worse .

Best regards

WOW! Nice work. I did find the diaphragm in my parts book. Thanks. I am assuming my only options to re-attach the marker light and electrical connections is to go through the indicator opening, groping blindly or remove that diaphragm, that is all covered in water proofing gunk? What is the usual way of removing and re-attaching that marker light?

Thanks again. Very kind of you to respond…Dan
