Retirement time for me

Although I haven’t done much with the 64 in the past few years I still look in here on occasions and was saddened to see this announcement and my first thought was “another good guy” gone! I’ll never forget our first impression of the size scope of the operation when we visited CW, probably 15 years ago, and the several favors that you did for me over the years! We wish you the best in the coming years, take care friend!

Dick, we met at the 50th anniversary at Pebble Beach and I thought what a “Class Act” and you were kind enough to even drive my car. You have such a wealth of knowledge on how to repair anything Jaguar and this topic is a dying breed. I also understand your not bad at autocrossing your own fast car that you set up. You will be missed and what a humble individual.

HI Richard, I remember you and your car. Really appreciate you volunteering to bring it out for the Jaguar event. It was kind of fun but a bit unnerving for Jaguar to ask for me to put together a group of a dozen XKE’s that the owners would not mind letting the Press drive. This happening in California at the Pebble Beach event and me being on the East coast never even having been to Pebble Beach. It was a very memorable event.

Thanks Dick, enjoy your freedom.

Dick,
Enjoy your retirement! I am sure you will not have any problems staying busy. Now you can do what you want.

I appreciate the advice you have given me over the years.

thanks,
Dave Christensen

As i mentioned before, I know a few guys that are well beyond (Pension) retirement age, who are specialists in such things as diesel fuel pumps, carbs, and auto electricians, and the case is, if they are prepared to take on the work, you dont ask them how much it will be, maybe an idea of how long it will take, but always pay the bill in cash without quibble, (and no IRS involvement)

I know for one, I am happy to pay the master at least what I would have to pay the apprentice in a dealership, so having a niche specialty like that is very handy, its not like a pilot or surgeon who has to be certified

A friend of mind earns his living working from his home garage rebuilding all sorts of mechanical equipment including race engines, and he never even qualified or officially worked as a mechanic. I worked with him as a public servant in an administrative job

I got a family members car fixed today for $130 by a guy with a specialty, and the minimum the dealer would charge to even look at the issue was quoted as $320
