So, we were burgled during the early hours of this morning.
Fortunately, we awoke and disturbed the bas*ards, so they didn’t
get away with too much. However, they did get the car and house
keys:-(> Got an emergency locksmith round and, 355 later we had
new front door and garage door locks fitted. Called the local MD to
get a price for replacement locks/key and transmitters and, they’ve
just emailed me a quote.

Sounds like its time to approach your insurer. Fingers
crossed you have cover, was there forced entry? Read your
terms and conditions before you ring them. Some exclude
theft of keys unless there has been forced entry. Nearly
all have a limit but excess normally doesn’t apply. Pm me
if you need any more info. I’m in that line of work.

Thanks Kyle but, I’ve already been in touch with them. My
household insurance includes key cover up to 1000. The house and
garage locks came to 355 so, I can get 645 towards the car
costs. My car insurers don’t cover lost/stolen keys but, they’re
going to give me 100 as a goodwill gesture, without penalising my
NCD. That leaves a balance of c1100 but, I’m not worried as I
know Neil, Dom, Peter Crespin, Jack H and Darrell (all fellow JL
members) are, as I type, writing out cheques or transferring funds
into my Paypal account:-)> After all, all my posts clearly state
at the top right hand side, ‘Supported via Donation’:-)>–

I know others have ‘supporter via donation’ but, mine definitely
ends with a d:-)> And, as some of those I mentioned can’t read too
well, I’m hoping they might fall for it.–

They obviously nicked your reading glasses as well…
Probably be back one night this week to see if they can get
the car.

It’s nasty, happened to me before. To stop the
undesirables coming back a bought a bullmastiff. She’s a
big dote And as soft a dog as you will ever see if your in
her ‘‘pack’’ this includes the cats and all the children at
the horse yard. They take turns to ride on her back much
to her delight… God help anyone she catches in the
house who isn’t meant to be there, nature would take its
course, as in she would rip bits of them according.–

Gary,
I feel your loss,
But it seems to me you obviously have a spare key
Any good MD can reprogram the sercurity so your old key and
transmitter no longer works
Granted doors and boot can be opened but as far as theft of car
Not going to happen.

P/S mailed a check to Jack as he is planning on coming over to pick

Gary,
I have an old set of locks with a key off my old transit
van if you get stuck. I’ll soak em in a bit of 3in1 oil if
you’re interested.
On a serious note, if you catch the buggers or find out
who they are you can add my name to the lynch mob list. My
services would be offered free of charge!

You have my commiserations Gary it must be tough living in
Harrow (the smoke), here in Essex one can leave the Jag on
the drive with the keys in it & the front door of the house
wide open and the villains just leave you pressies like a
burnt out car!
Still on the bright side the bstrds didn’t trash the place
and cause damage or harm.–

I landed in Greater London from the US in the early hours…
However, after a superb Virgin Upper Class flight, complete with
bed an as much champagne as I could drink, I would obviously not
want to ruin the afterglow by slumming around in your old beater.
So I’m in the clear. Oh yes, in the clear. It was just a
coincidence, absolutely a coincidence.
You need a new battery in the remote by the way, and squirt some
graphite in that boot lock because it was very stiff.
In reply to a message from gary breyer sent Mon 12 Aug 2013:
Sorry to hear of the trouble Gary. You have my
condolences. I do have a couple of questions though.
If the miscreants were able to get into the house once
without the keys, what benefit is there to re-keying the
house locks?
Is it time to take down the plywood fish shaped key
hook thingy that you keep your keys on by the door?
Just askin…–

Neil,
Gary lives in a rough area, granted, chances are the only reason
the car is still there is the battery was flat and the car would
not start ;-‘’)

My dear Rosser, being the kind, compassionate soul that you are I
didn’t think that you would need any prompting, unlike those hard
hearted B*&^@’'ds referred to in my earlier post. As I am still in
deep plight, please reconsider.
In reply to a message from gary breyer sent Mon 12 Aug 2013:
Given that cost, wouldn’t it be more economical to buy a
wrecked X308 for 500GBP then swap the locks out? Then all you
are looking at is re-programming costs.
Then you can sell parts from the wrecked X308 cheaply to
recoup the cost and sell the rest for metal…
That’s what I did with my XJ12 when the bumper got crunched
and I was looking at $6500 in parts (bonnet, front bumper,
grill, leaper from dealership).–

But don’t the crooks have the other set of keys… and don’t they know where
you live? Can’t they just come round and pick the car up… sometime?
Cheers,

I’ve found a place that sells the correct key blanks, including the
transponder, for £7.50 delivered. A local locksmith is going to cut and
programme for about £40.–
